“Pre-Hab”: How to Get Stronger Before Surgery & Accelerate Healing Time

Going into joint replacement surgery with a strong, flexible body makes all the difference in the recovery process. Kris has used her own experiences to develop a program to help people go in strong. Guided Mediation & Reiki

Come join Old Lyme resident Jennifer King certified as a Yoga & Meditation Instructor for monthly guided meditation with reiki energy healing! For January 2026, you will explore a Sending Healing Energy to Others Guided Meditation.  Each participant will be guided to call to mind a beloved person or animal in need of support, and send them positive, healing energy. Participants will learn more about meditation and reiki, and will experience a guided group meditation while seated in chairs, including individual mini-reiki treatments to cultivate relaxation. You will leave feeling balanced and refreshed!

Join Physical Therapist Aaron Morales, Rehab Director at the Visiting Nurses of the Lower Valley, for an informative and hands-on presentation on FALLS. In this interactive, one-hour session, Aaron will explore the common causes of falls in the elderly, the impact of the aging process on balance and mobility, and practical strategies seniors can use to reduce their risk. He will also guide attendees on how to access appropriate services if a higher level of care is needed.

“Are You Listening?” Presentation

A humorous 1.5-hour workshop about active listening presented by  Wally Kostrzewa. You may hear well, but do you listen well? If not, you’re missing more than you know. Try active listening. With practice, you can reduce distractions, recognize unconscious biases, read between the lines, and avoid judging or giving unwanted advice. Family, friends, and coworkers will notice you pay attention more during a conversation. Presenter Waldemar “Wally” Kostrzewa will take a sometimes-humorous look at listening styles, bad habits, and body language. Hear about recent findings and follow proven approaches to listen better. It is encouraged that you pre-register for this program and also bring a pen or pencil with you to take notes.

Exercises & Stretches for Lower Back Pain

Join local yoga teacher/exercise physiologist, health coach, and yoga therapist Lynn McCarthy MS for a workshop focusing on back pain care. This workshop includes discussions of anatomy, reflections on surprising factors that contribute to low back pain, and surprising ways to care for your back and manage pain. The class will include experiential learning and lecture. For the movement offerings it is recommended (but not required) that you bring a mat, 2 yoga blocks, a blanket and wear comfortable clothing. No experience required. All movement offerings are optional, and modifications will be demonstrated. Please pre-register for this free workshop.
