During the past week we had some temporary closures of the I-95 on/off ramps at exits 70 and 71. After some delays due to temperature and rain, this work should be completed today. If you ever wonder about road closures or traffic alerts in our state, please use the app on our Emergency Management page entitled CTRoads. Click here to try it out.

On Tuesday, VFW Post 1467 held their annual Veterans Day Ceremony at the flagpole in front of Town Hall. Members of the community joined the VFW membership to honor those who have served our country. VFW Post 1467 members volunteer within our community year round and provide scholarships for local students.

On Wednesday, our Registrars of Voters, poll workers and Town Clerks' office conducted an official recount to confirm the Election Day counts for two positions on the ballot. The counts were confirmed and the official results are posted on the Town Clerk’s website.

Town Hall hosted a send-off celebration for our former Resident State Trooper Matt Weber. The event was held in the foyer of the Meeting Hall and many members of the community stopped by to share a memory and thank him for his service to our town. The Police Department provided all of Matt’s favorite foods for the attendees. We wish Matt well in his new position.

The Flood and Erosion Control Board has asked that we repost their town survey for a few more weeks. The Flood & Erosion Control Board plans to use the information gathered in this survey to make strategic plans on how to best serve the residents of Old Lyme. I have also sent the link for the survey to all beach association presidents and have asked them to forward it to their members.

On Sunday, November 16th,, at 2PM there will be a swearing-in ceremony held in the Meeting Room at Town Hall for all newly elected officials. The public is invited to attend. This ceremony was designed by Town Clerk Vicki Urbowicz, a number of years ago as she believed the elected officials should have a designated ceremony to begin their terms in office. Many thanks to her and the other Town Hall staff members who plan this ceremony and reception.

The Old Lyme Conservation Commission and Open Space Commissions are co-sponsoring an informative talk about beavers at the Phoebe Griffin Noyes Library on Thursday, November 20th at 6:30PM. DEEP Master Wildlife Conservationist Ginny Apple will be the guest speaker.

Enjoy the fall weekend!

All my best,
Martha
