Welcome to June!

This week, Ledge Light Health District informed local municipal leaders that mosquito season has started. As the State’s trapping program begins, LLHD will utilize their website and social media to inform the communities of any positive results.

We are preparing for Golf Cart Inspections. Please note that you will be able to sign up online for a time spot at either Hawk’s Nest or Sound View. More information will be forthcoming next week.

Open Space Chairperson, Greg Futoma informed me that Eversource is planning to remove certain power lines/poles from Town open space land, land trust property and private property. As this work will involve the use of helicopters, it may attract people’s interest. Eversource will keep us informed of their plans and we will keep you updated.

Tree Commission Chairperson, Joanne DiCamillo let me know yesterday that the Ferry Road tree planting will take place next week. The nursery and the landscape contractor have notified Joanne that the trees will be shipped on Tuesday and planted soon after. There will also be a tree planted on Sill Lane.

Lymes’ Senior Center Director, Stephanie Gould wants to remind everyone that the center is now reopened, and they are offering a variety of evening classes for residents 55 years of age or older. For more information, please visit the Lymes Senior Center website page.

Our Public Works Department has been out mowing. As you know, spring is a strong growing season and the roadsides have become very overgrown. We appreciate their help in keeping our town in such great shape. The team also power washed the bocce courts at Sound View and gave them a new coat of stain.

Yesterday afternoon the Old Lyme Fire Department was very fortunate to receive a 2025 Eversource Energy Community Impact Grant for $2,000. Following a needs assessment from some of our officers, they applied for the 2025 Community Impact Grant to replace and upgrade all of the Personal Floatation Devices (PFDs) that are carried on the two zodiac rescue boats. The new PFD's will increase both their member's and the victim's safety if they must go into the water to perform a rescue. We want to thank @EversourceCT for their continued support as the OLFD strives to provide the best service possible to both residents and visitors of Old Lyme. Click here for picture.

Town Engineer Howard Pfrommer, from Nathan L. Jacobson & Associates, met with Old Lyme Fire Chief Mike McCarthy, Old Lyme Ambulance Association President Peter Ross, and Deputy Chief Dan Labriola to discuss the needs of our emergency services personnel when the time comes to close Grassy Hill Road in June 2026. We also appreciate Jim Jewett being on site, as he explained his needs as the property owner. These large projects proceed smoothly when we proactively plan them out in advance. I appreciate all of their insight and cooperation as we move forward.

This Saturday, June 7 is the Household Hazardous Waste collection at the Lyme - Old Lyme Middle School from 9AM - 1PM.

This coming week the Region 18 Class of 2025 will graduate. The Towns of Lyme and Old Lyme wish the graduates all the best as they begin the next phase of their journey. As these students depart, so do some amazing staff members who have dedicated 219 years of service to the Region 18 school system. A special thank you to Jeanne Manfredi, Regina Wohlke, Bruce Hrozenchik, Rebecca Bocian, Marianne DeBruyn, Thelma Halloran, Susan Whritner, and Jeanne DeLaura. Best wishes as you begin your retirement adventures!

Please have a wonderful weekend with your family and friends. The summer season is so short; make the most of it.

All my best,
Martha
