Happy New Year 2025!

This week has been relatively quiet in Town Hall, due to the midweek holiday. The new year began with our elevator maintenance being completed a day early. I have been told that the doors now open more quickly than before.

The Board of Selectmen began their budget review on Monday, December 30th. We met with the heads of the following departments: Emergency Management, Fire Marshal, Social Services, Parks and Recreation, Town Woods Park, and Police Department. We also reviewed the Town Hall and Selectman’s Office budgets. This process allows the Selectmen to ask questions regarding budget requests. A few Board of Finance members were present, who also asked for more information. Our next budget meeting is on Monday, January 6th from 12PM – 4PM. We also have a Board of Selectmen meeting that evening at 5:30PM.

Governor Lamont has directed that all flags be lowered to half-staff until sunset on January 28th in honor of the life and legacy of President Jimmy Carter, who passed away on December 29th in Plains, Georgia. Jimmy Carter will be remembered as a caring person and true humanitarian.

We received the following message from Eversource on December 23rd.

On January 1, Eversource electric customers will see an increase in the energy supply price (Standard Service rate). A typical Eversource residential customer on Standard Service using 700 kWh per month will have a total bill increase of 7.2% or $15.37. This is the lowest Standard Service winter supply rate since 2021. Eversource does not generate electricity and we are required by law to purchase power on behalf of customers not enrolled with an alternate supplier. Those costs are passed on with no mark up or profit to us.

We’ve provided a flyer below with this information so you can socialize it on your town website or on social media. Additionally, Eversource offers programs that help customers manage their energy usage, as well as payment plans and financial resources for those customers that qualify.  Below are links to sites you can share with your residents:
