The festive lights of the season are brightening the skies of Old Lyme this time of year. This week the Town Hall staff decorated the doors and common areas of Town Hall. Our Public Works crew put winter white lights on the pine tree in the front lawn and installed a wreath created by the Duck River Garden Club. Anita Mancini, Finance Director, and I have been busy reviewing the budget requests for FY 25/26, and we have started meeting with various department heads to discuss their line items. The Board of Selectmen will begin to review the budget in a few weeks. In January the Board of Selectmen will choose our Citizen of the Year. We invite the residents of Old Lyme to nominate someone you feel is deserving of this honor. The nomination paperwork can be found on our website. Please make sure you get these into Town Hall by January 3rd. Also during the month of January, the Board of Selectmen appoint residents who are interested in serving on the town’s thirty-five Boards, Commissions and Committees. Each year various individuals have their terms come up for renewal. People can choose to apply for reappointment or tell us they no longer wish to continue to serve. Please review the list of available positions and see if one interests you. We hope that you will consider becoming involved in our town’s government. Our town volunteers are what make Old Lyme so special. If you happened to be in the Town Hall today you may have spotted a festive sweater or two! Today was our Annual Ugly Sweater Contest and we celebrated with some take out food for lunch. Enjoy the chilly weekend! All my best, Martha
