It is hard to believe that we are in the fall season. I hope all of you have been enjoying these unusually warm days.
Early Voting has begun in Old Lyme. The first four days saw a steady stream of voters and they are giving rave reviews of our setup in the Meeting Hall. The elevator was repaired earlier this week, so those who need it can easily get to the main floor from the lower parking lot.
I attended the Connecticut Council of Municipalities Legislative meeting, as well as RiverCOG’s monthly meeting, this week. Both sessions provide town leaders with the most up-to-date information on legislative matters that could affect our communities.
Resident State Trooper Matt Weber, along with Corporal Wayne Collins and Patrolman Stephen Hackett, attended the Road and Public Safety Committee on Wednesday evening. The committee members questioned our Public Safety officers on various topics. I appreciate the time these volunteers are taking to analyze data and questions those that deal with the issues.
Lymes' Senior Center Director Stephanie Gould and Lymes' Senior Center Assistant to the Director Caitlin Perkins have been hard at work moving the Lymes’ Senior Center calendar over to our website platform. There will be new updates coming, but the foundation has been activated. The move to our website enables the towns to save $3000 per year.
The Connecticut Transportation Safety Research Center shared their 2024 Connecticut Transportation Annual publication with town leaders. We have posted this on our Public Works website for anyone who would like to read it.
Lymes’ Youth Services will be sponsoring their semi-annual DRUG TAKE BACK at the Lyme Street Fire House on Saturday, October 26th from 10AM – 2PM. This is the perfect time to clean out your medicine cabinet.
Our Annual Gourd contest is coming to an end and voting will be taking place in the coming days. Winners will be announce on October 31st. We pleased to have the Center School Pre-schoolers come to see the gourd display. We will share pictures of their visit next week.
Halloween will once again be celebrated on Lyme Street on Thursday evening. Our youngest trick or treaters begin arriving around 4PM. Please remember to take extra caution when driving on Lyme Street that evening.
Congratulations to Tax Collector Suzanne Thompson for completing and passing her first of four exams to become a Certified Tax Collector in the State of Connecticut.
Have a Happy Halloween and enjoy the last week of October!
