What a wonderful fall Friday! This has been an active week in Town Hall. The Board of Selectmen held their first meeting of the month on Monday.  We will be holding a Special Meeting on Tuesday, October 15th at 5:30PM to discuss the approval of the Inter Municipal Agreement (IMA) with New London for the shoreline sewer project.

This week had a full meeting schedule. I met with CIRMA, our town insurance company, to review our policy for accuracy. I also attended town meetings with our WPCA, Lymes’ Senior Center Building Committee and Halls Road Improvement Committee. These committees are very active with upcoming and ongoing projects in our town. Please make sure you check their website pages for the latest information. I also had the opportunity to meet with several residents regarding their individual concerns. This gives me the chance to learn more about our town. I greatly appreciate residents who are consistently watching over Old Lyme.

The Registrar of Voter’s Office would like to remind everyone that Election Day is November 5. For more information on voting, our polling location, absentee ballots, early voting and much more, please visit our Election Information Page.  For questions about early voting or voter registration, please call the Registrar of Voter’s Office at 860-434-1605 ext. 226. For questions about absentee ballots, please contact the Town Clerk’s office at 860-434-1605 ext. 220 or ext. 221.

The Lymes’ Senior Center is seeking new volunteers. Can you spare an hour or two per week or month? Do you want to pour a little love back into your community? Senior Center is piloting a new program to match Seniors who could use a little assistance with everyday things with adult volunteers who would like to help. Using a website developed by Connecticut non-profit, UR Community Cares, volunteers can see requests for help from Seniors in their community and accept any they feel able to complete (i.e. light household tasks, light yard work, companionship visits, and rides). This successful model is already used in other towns across Connecticut. It is easy and free for volunteers to sign up and you can provide as much or as little help as your other commitments allow. Promoting a safe and trusting environment for all, both volunteers and Seniors are background checked as part of the sign-up process. We would love to have you on board. For more information visit: www.urcommunitycares.org or call the Lymes’ Senior Center at (860) 434-1605 ext. 240 and they can connect you with existing Lyme-Old Lyme URCC volunteers.

Freebies – During Covid, we received multiple boxes of unisex protective coveralls. We have a few boxes left that are all size XXLs. They are in the First Selectmen’s office, and you are welcome to come and pick-up one or two. These might be helpful if you are doing extensive fall gardening, painting, power washing or any other messy projects. Please see Michele Hayes in the First Selectmen’s office.

Speaking of gardening, the Old Lyme Historical Society will be holding their Fall Plant Sale on tomorrow and Sunday across the road at 55 Lyme Street.

Due to the federal holiday on Monday, Town Hall will be closed. Our Transfer Station will also be closed on Saturday and will reopen on Tuesday. Trash and recycling collection will be unaffected.

For those of you who may not have seen the Northern Lights last evening, please take the opportunity to look at these photos that our Resident State Trooper Matt Weber shared.

Enjoy the long weekend!

All my best,
Martha
