I want to begin this week’s newsletter by informing residents that we will hold a Town Meeting on Monday, September 30th at 7PM. The Notice for this meeting is posted on our website as well as the new ordinances that we would like to adopt. The monetary requests would come from our unassigned surplus account which is approximately $12M. These are for projects that the Board of Selectman and the Board of Finance unanimously forwarded to Town Meeting for your consideration.

Our most exciting news this week is that the cupola was hoisted atop the Lymes' Senior Center on Tuesday. Progress continues on the Senior Center and it is still on schedule.

The Connecticut Audubon Society is part of the Lights Out Connecticut Coalition.  At this time of year, they are asking state residents and businesses to help migrating birds by turning out their lights from 11PM to 6AM during peak bird migration seasons; which is now through November 15th. There will be another request in the spring when the birds return to Connecticut.

On October 21st, Early Voting will begin in the State of Connecticut. It will run through November 3rd. Please note that the Meeting Hall will be reserved for Early Voting. All meetings have been rescheduled to other locations for this period. Please make sure you check the calendar to see where your meeting is taking place.

Registrars of Voters: Election Day is Tuesday, November 5th. Important information for voters can be found on our homepage, including: absentee ballots, early voting and polling locations.

We held a staff meeting for town department heads this morning. We began planning for budgeting for FY25/26 and heard updates from various staff members. One such update, is the elevator has passed state inspection after undergoing the first round of scheduled preventative maintenance. We appreciated everyone’s patience while the elevator was out of service. Otis elevator will be back to complete a second round of preventative maintenance. The public will be notified at that time.

At the end of September, the Federal Department of Health and Human Services will resume sending free COVID test kits to households. The move comes as the start of respiratory virus season officially begins on October 1st. Starting now, households can order four free tests.

If you are looking for something to do this weekend, please remember that the Wee Faerie Village begins tomorrow at the Florence Griswold Museum.

Enjoy the last weekend in September!

All my best,
Martha
