It was a busy morning on Lyme Street today as the crowds lined up for the White Elephant Sale at the First Congregational Church. I can remember taking my own children there to search for treasures each July. The sale is just another one of the yearly traditions in our town that makes Old Lyme special.

Do you remember when you built your house or expanded with a new addition? Today we are sending out our first batch of postcards to residents whose building plans exist in Town Hall. In order to decrease the amount of paper we have in basement storage, we will be reaching out to ask if you want these documents. You will be able to let us know if you want to pick them up or to have them shredded.

During this week Town Hall had the opportunity to host Lymes Youth Service Bureau’s Theater Arts Camp. The twenty attendees have filled the meeting hall with songs, laughter and smiles. This afternoon they put on a presentation for their families. We were pleased to have had them as our guests and appreciated the creativity and joyfulness that they brought to Town Hall this week.

The new artwork being displayed on the lower stairwell ledge at Town Hall is courtesy of the Roger Tory Peterson summer campers. Please feel free to pop in to see their creations.

I have been busy working on a variety of projects for the town. Here is a brief summary to let you know where we currently stand.

  • Grassy Hill Bridge – have had initial contact with Frontier and am planning a site visit to discuss the relocation of the telephone pole in the island.
  • Swan Brook Crib – detailed plans for the new pilings are being developed. Once those are completed, we will have the project quoted. This will need to go to a Town Meeting for a vote.
  • Cross Lane Bridge Drain & Pipe Replacement – still in discussions with Amtrak as we need to coordinate efforts to work together on this project.
  • Senior Center Renovations and Expansion Project – continued weekly Wednesday morning meetings onsite. The project is currently on schedule.
  • Emergency Operations Center Expansion – currently out for Request for Proposals, which are due July 21st.
  • Town Hall Doors – currently on order and should be replaced in September. The elevator will be getting some upgrades as well.
