It seems hard to believe that June is coming to an end. The last two weeks have flown by as Town Hall continues to be busy with parking permits for the beach and Hains Park areas as well as dog licenses. The Parks and Recreation Department began their summer camp this week. As always, Parks & Recreation Director Don Bugbee and Assistant Director Winnie Edmed have done a superb job of planning the summer camp activities and training the staff who will work with the young residents of Old Lyme.

Our weekly owner’s meeting at the Senior Center Construction site is always informative and allows us to know how the project is progressing. This week there was a great deal of activity at the worksite. Cement was being poured for the new addition's foundation and some older landscaping was being removed to prepare space for the new design. I did not have the chance to go inside, but hope to have some new pictures after our next meeting in two weeks.

We have our Board of Selectmen meeting on Monday, July 1st at 5:30 PM. Chairman Michael Fogliano will be presenting an update on what is happening with the Affordable Housing Commission. We will also be making some appointments to various Committees. Go to our website to see what Boards and Commissions have vacant positions and fill out an application form for consideration if you are interested.

Tax Collector Suzanne Thompson would like to remind everyone that tax bills were mailed on June 27th to individual homes and will be available Monday, July 1st for online payment on our Town website. Motor Vehicle taxes are due July 1, 2024 and are delinquent after August 1, 2024. Real Estate and Personal Property bills over $100 may be paid in 2 installments: July 1, 2024 and January 1, 2025. If the tax or installment due is paid after August 1, 2024 or the second tax installment is paid after February 3, 2025, interest charges of one and one-half percent (1.5%) per month or 18% per year are added. Payments made on August 2 or later in August will be charged 3 percent. The minimum interest charge is two dollars. Interest rates, dates and charges are set by Connecticut state law, CSG 12 - 146. Partial payments are always accepted.

Summer Music: The Senior Center, Sound View, and Town Band summer concert series have all begun. If you are looking for a musical activity some evening, please check their posted schedules.

Please note that Town Hall and the Transfer Station will be closing on July 3rd at 12 noon. We will be having a Staff Meeting and lunch on that afternoon. Town Hall will also be closed on July 4th in honor of Independence Day. Have a wonderful 4th of July!

All my best,
Martha
