On Monday we swore in our newest police recruit, George Sirigos. The event took place just before the Board of Selectmen meeting in the Town Hall Meeting Room. George will attend the State’s Police Academy for approximately five months, beginning July 14th. We are thrilled to have him as a part of the Old Lyme Police Department.

The Board of Selectmen held their meeting following the swearing-in. We were pleased to have the Halls Road Improvement Committee present an update to the selectmen. The Board of Finance also held their monthly meeting on Tuesday night. They spent some time discussing bonding options for the Senior Center. Please remember that you can find agendas, minutes and meeting recordings on our website. You can sign-up using the “Notify Me” module on our website to receive notification when agendas and minutes for any of our boards, commissions, or committees are posted.

Holiday Closings:

  • The Town Hall was closed on Wednesday in observance of Juneteenth. This is now a federal holiday to commemorate the ending of slavery in the United States.
  • Please note that the Town Hall will close at noon on July 3rd so that the Town employees can gather for a staff meeting.
  • The Town Hall and the Transfer Station will be closed Thursday, July 4th in observance of Independence Day.

Tax Collector Suzanne Thompson would like to inform everyone that tax bills will be mailed out on June 27th. Please watch for them in your mailbox.

If you drove down Lyme Street in the past few days, you might have noticed a crew painting portions of the exterior of Memorial Town Hall. Many thanks to our Facilities Manager, Erik Olsen, for coordinating the efforts to keep our Town buildings in tip-top shape.

Old Lyme was host to the "Mornings with Ray and Brian" radio show on WTIC-AM 1080 this morning. This was part of Brian Shactman's Darting Around Connecticut segment. Cheryl Poirier, Economic Development Commission Chair, worked in conjunction with Joe Bourgoin from WTIC to coordinate Old Lyme's line up of special guests. Many thanks to the Florence Griswold Museum (FloGris Museum) for hosting the show on their front lawn. I was honored to be included and special thanks to the following featured speakers:

  • Emily Clark, Marketing Coordinator, FloGris Museum
  • Ramblin' Dan Stevens, Musician, and co-organizer of Make Music Old Lyme
  • Cheryl Poirier, Chairperson of the Old Lyme Economic Development Commission
  • Marna Wilber, Owner Marna Roons
  • Gene Chmiel, owner Black Hall Outfitters
  • Dee & Jerry Vowles, and family, owners of the Carousel Shoppe
  • Amy Kurtz-Lansing, Curator, FloGris Museum
  • Lyme-Old Lyme High School Girl Athletes/Spring Sports

This evening is one of my favorite events of the year - Make Music Old Lyme! This is a celebration of the Summer Solstice and is held from 5-7pm. Lyme Street once again will be brimming with the best music in the area. Come out for a stroll downtown the music will be sure to put some rhythm in your steps.

Enjoy this first full weekend of summer.

All my best,
Martha
