We welcomed an additional member to the Town Hall staff this week. Jill Karrenberg is our new part time Human Resources Generalist. She began on Monday and has been busy getting to know the staff, organizing our processes and onboarding paperwork. Welcome Jill to Old Lyme!
On Wednesday, we had our first weekly construction meeting in the trailer at the Senior Center. Due to the rainy weather, the crews were able to get most of the interior demolition done earlier this week. Please remember to save May 20th at 2 PM for our groundbreaking ceremony. The rain date is May 21st.
Yesterday, Resident State Trooper Matt Weber, Katie Balocca and I were presented the town’s Tier 1 Accreditation Certificate, at the Connecticut State Police Officer Standards and Training (POST) facility in Meriden. This is a huge accomplishment for Old Lyme. Katie Balocca, along with Matt Ward and our consultant Andretta Swift from Badge Six have spent numerous hours preparing the Tier 1 paperwork. They have already begun work on Tier 2.
The Ferry Road Sidewalk Committee is pleased to report that the planned start date of the Ferry Road Sidewalk Project is Tuesday, May 28th. Colonna Concrete and Asphalt Paving will begin by removing all the sidewalk panels. This will enable Bartlett Tree Experts to examine the tree roots of the seven trees that may require air excavation and root shaving as tree preservation measures.
A quick update on the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) pavement project on Route 156/Shore Road, paving started on May 3rd, and they anticipate completing on May 17th. Please expect delays while on Route 156 from 7 AM – 4 PM. Local paving for Chadwick Drive, Lee Drive and Victoria Lane (off of Mile Creek Road) will begin on Wednesday, May 15th.
On Tuesday, I attended the ribbon cutting ceremony for Sapore Pizzeria & Bar. This was a joint project from the Greater Saybrook Chamber of Commerce and the Economic Development Commission (EDC). We are so glad that Luigi Conte and his team have reopened.
Along the shoreline we have begun to see signs of summer appearing. Jerry and Dee Vowles, owners of the Carousel and Shops have begun preparing for the season. Kokomo's Restaurant and Beach Bar is taking reservations and the Pavilion’s music lineup is complete. Cheryl Poirier from the EDC also notified me that the Salty Monkey will be returning for another season at Sound View.
I hope that all the Old Lyme moms have a Happy Mother’s Day on Sunday.
