First Selectman's Newsletter
We send our condolences to Claudia and the Weicker family on the passing of Lowell on June 28th.
Controversial? Yes; Opinionated? Yes, but Lowell stood by his convictions and made no bones about it. When I knocked on his door during an election campaign, he was very gracious and reflected on the time he was the First Selectman of Greenwich. He said the job of a first selectman can be, at times, more difficult than that of a State or Federal elected position because Selectman are the front line of interface with their citizenry. Obviously, Lowell did not hide behind staffers during his career.
Old Lyme has been fortunate to have him and his wife, Claudia, as active members of our Town.
HOLIDAY CLOSING SCHEDULE
The Town Hall will be closed Tuesday, July 4th, in observance of Independence Day. The Transfer Station will also be closed and there will be no trash or recycle collection on Tuesday. The CWPM collection schedule will adjust to the following day for the rest of the week. If Tuesday is your normal trash or recycling pick-up day, please be ready for Wednesday pick-up, and so on.
You have the entire month of July to make your 2023 tax payments. Your tax bill(s) were mailed earlier this week and the information is live on the Town's website. This year, your real estate and motor vehicle bill(s) may have come in separate envelopes because of the bulk mailing system that we used. You may pay all of your taxes with one check or transaction and save the extra pink envelope(s) to mail your January 2024 second installment payment (or drop your extras off at the Tax Office; they can use them throughout the year). Visit the Tax Collectors website page or click here to view and pay your bill(s) on-line.

Beach Mats installed at Sound View and White Sand Beaches
Look for the new blue beach mats at White Sand Beach and Sound View! These 100-ft long paths lead from the paved areas down to the water to provide access for elderly or disabled visitors, or parents with strollers. At White Sand Beach, one of the two handicap parking spots was moved closer to the bath house and the location of the beach mat. Thank you to our great Public Works crew for installing the mats at both locations. The mats were purchased through the Town’s American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding.
New PropertyCheck Fraud Prevention Program for Residents
The Old Lyme Town Clerk's office is now offering a free service that helps protect property owners from potential property and mortgage fraud. Learn more and sign-up to receive automatic alerts for any recordings regarding your property.
Lastly, effective July 9th the U.S. Postal Service will increase the price of a first class stamps to 66 cents (a 3¢ increase). You may consider purchasing stamps before the increase. Hoping you and yours have a wonderful July 4th!
