Ledge Light Health District conducted routine bathing water sampling on Monday, August 5, 2024. The above area showed sample results exceeding the bacterial action level for bacteria set by the State of Connecticut. Hains Park was placed under advisory on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, and re-sampled on Wednesday, August 7, 2024. Re-sample results showed elevated bacteria persisted, and the area remains under advisory at this time.
A second re-sample will be drawn, Friday, August 9, 2024. Results are expected over the weekend.
Please be aware that rain or other contamination events occurring before the Monday and Wednesday morning sampling may have contributed to elevated bacterial counts, especially in areas subject to water runoff (storm drainpipes or extensive impervious surfaces) or low water turnover (inland bathing areas). These areas are particularly vulnerable to increased bacterial counts following rainfall. We recommend all individuals responsible for the bathing areas take these events into consideration.
